The world is seeing unprecedented change. The only constant is constant change. The old established approaches and institutions are being reinvented by technological advancements, the sharing economy, and the new disruptiveContinue
The world is at a tipping point that will see us either flourish or fail as a society. Failure is almost certain with our current corrupt political system which ruthlessly serves the pocket of the richest 0.1%. What we have is an illusion of democracy and it’s oppressively harmful to the people and the planet.
Any attempts to tackle inequality, corruption, climate change, poverty, mass unemployment, and escalating global conflicts; will ultimately fail until we first achieve major political reform. We need to demand that our politicians begin to drag the political system out of the dark ages; moving us towards a collabracy that’s genuinely open and participative, adopting new platforms and process that put power in the hands of the many, not the few. OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM IS BROKEN
The system is designed to give real power to the corporations and richest 1%. Their lobbying and political funding means they get to shape every single decision and piece of legislation that is made in government. All we get is a vote every few years for two sides that reflects your views or represent your interests.
INEQUALITY IS GROWING RAPIDLY
As a result, inequality is soaring and the richest 1% now have more than 50% of the world’s wealth. Buffet and Gates alone have more than poorest 40% of America. The combined wealth of the Forbes Richest 400 people has increased nearly 8x since the 90’s, jumping from $300bn in 1992 to $2.34 trillion in 2015. Yet inflation hasn’t even doubled over that same period and for the first time in history increases in productivity are decoupled from wages and employment. Only the richest few are seeing any real benefits.
THE WORLD IS AT A TIPPING POINT
We are facing some almost unimaginable challenges that will see us either flourish or fail as a society.
Automation could impact 47% of job categories (The Economist) creating mass global unemployment on an unprecedented scale
Seeking to prevent mass extinction of species, increased deadly weather, and flooding from rising seas
An eye for eye leaves the whole world blind, we need to pursue peace. This pursuit of profit only fuels terrorism
All of these threats can be turned into opportunities that make the world a better place. But any attempts to tackle these and many other challenges; will ultimately fail until we first achieve major political reform. Establishing an open political system that serves the needs of the people and the planet, not the pocket of the wealthiest few.
